Hypnotherapy for Habits and Disorders
Hypnosis to Take Control of How You Think and Feel
Live Life Free From Repetitive Habits and Thoughts
Hypnotherapy is incredibly effective at addressing deep rooted habits and disorders. Over 15+ years of working as a professional hypnotherapist means that I have pretty much seen most presenting issues.
Hypnosis connects you with your subconscious and creates a mindful awareness around your issue. This mindfulness takes the automatic aspect of your issue away. Hypnosis is a great addition to any existing treatment that you are undertaking and has been shown to work extremely well with CBT.
Hypnosis is renowned for helping to cure obsessive-compulsive habits and nail biting is one of these. Nail Biting is an oral compulsive habit that can often start in childhood. In fact 30 percent of children are nail biters and it is just that some people never grow out of it. Over time nail biting can become a learnt response. For example, you are more likely to bite your nails if a parent or older sibling is a nail biter. Other reasons for nail biting include boredom or feelings of insecurity.
I have helped many clients to achieve their dream of having nails that are healthy and grow well and hands that they are no longer hiding or feeling shameful about. By working on any underlying insecurities and understanding your triggered response to biting your nails, you can move away from this bad habit and into new responses and ways of dealing with stress, boredom or insecurity.
This is a condition in which you grind your teeth or clench them. This can happen when you are awake and when you are sleeping. If you are continually grinding your teeth complications may develop such as headaches, jaw ache and damage to your teeth by causing chipping or loosening which leads to tooth pain and sensitivity.
In my experience of working with bruxism hypnosis, there is usually some frustration or aggression that is not being fully expressed. It can also be a habit that has its roots in an ancestral past as a way of coping with stress. I have had great success with creating deep calm under hypnosis and new solutions emerge to resolve the underlying issues that have led to you grinding your teeth in the first place. Hypnotherapy is a great approach to helping your subconscious to release the tension, stress and anxiety, anger or frustration that may be contributing to you having bruxism.
Are you in denial about pulling out your hair? Many people never seek help with this and believe that one day they will just automatically stop pulling out their hair.
This could be pulling out hair on your scalp that is creating bald patches, plucking out your eyelashes or eyebrows or facial hair. It is a habit that usually forms in adolescence and then progresses into an adult habit where you are getting a sense of relief from pulling out the hair. I have also seen clients that enjoy eating their hair as well this condition is called trichophagia. This can contribute to problems in the gastrointestinal tract if not dealt with over time.
The causes of developing this habit could be because of some trauma that needs to be dealt with at a subconscious level or it may simply be a learned generational response. I have had clients that copied older sisters or family members and simply learnt it as a way of coping with stress.
Hypnotherapy will allow you to explore anything that is holding you back from breaking this habit and move you forward with new coping strategies that help you to feel calmer and happier so you are able to move towards having a beautiful full head of hair again or to simply feel free of the habit.
This is a similar habit to nail biting in the way that there is a compulsion to keep doing it. It is usually a learned response to feeling stress and anxiety and involves you keep biting or gnawing on the skin inside of your mouth.
This can lead to very painful mouth ulcers and injuries. In advanced cases there is a compulsion that becomes OCD to smooth out the areas that are bitten and jagged causing more pain and discomfort. In severe cases this can increase your chance of getting mouth cancer with continual change to the cheek tissue.
Hypnosis works with you to identify the triggers and to break the habit by changing it into a new response where you will experience calmness and break this habit for good.
Have you ever experienced a totally self-conscious reaction where you have gone bright red for no apparent reason? This is because you have just experienced what is actually a part of a fight or flight response. What has happened is you have just had a volt of adrenaline spike through you that has caused the veins in your face to dilate. This is to improve blood flow and oxygen so that you can run fast if you need to! However it usually occurs just when we don’t want it to and we can’t get away.
Hypnosis helps people who have developed a fear of blushing and has great success in helping them to own their mistakes and to not experience having to feel embarrassed anymore. I also have worked with clients and revealed the real source of their blushing is rage or outrage.
Many blushers are emotionally and socially intelligent people who pre empt others responses. Whatever your reason for blushing hypnotherapy will allow you to recognise the triggers and move you towards a different response where you are free of the fear of blushing and able to switch off that fight or flight response so you remain calm, cool and collected.
This is excessive sweating of the hands or palms. Are you worried about shaking hands with people or fear bringing on excessive sweating when you are nervous? Hypnotherapy has helped many people with this condition.
Sweaty palms can be brought on when you are feeling emotional or particularly stressed as the nerves activate the sweat glands and we have many in our hands. The mind can start to bring on sweating in stressful situations. And so hypnosis will give you your peace of mind back and help you to feel calm and relaxed. This is because knowing that if your mind can make your hands sweat then it also has the power to help them remain cool and dry in social situations.
We all have different ways of releasing anger. When your reaction becomes destructive to yourself as well as others, then you need to come up with ways of addressing your emotions – anger management.
Hypnosis can remove the angry feelings and replace them with feelings of being calm and in control. After a few sessions you will find you are much more relaxed and satisfied about your life and have a much greater understanding of what triggers your anger and how to cope with it.
Procrastination can be symptomatic of a disorder. Procrastination has been linked to depression, low self-esteem, irrational behaviour, anxiety and ADHD. Other studies have found relationships with guilt and stress.
Hypnosis for procrastination can help you to take action now, to associate reward with progress and design your future actions so that they are achievable.
